Reportage - Barack Obama

CHANGE

"... Do what the cynics said you could not do, but what Iowa did last week, and what this country can do this year: bring together Democrats, Republicans, Independents and finally insist: we are one nation, we are one people, and we are born to bring about changes that can actually solve problems that we have been talking about ... "

"Change does not come with anger. There's no shortage of anger in Washington, there's no shortage of bluster, or hot air. There's no shortage of bitter partisanship in Washington. That's not the missing ingredient. We don't need more heat, we need more light... One of the things I learned very early in life is: we can disagree without being disagreeable... "

HOPE

From Iowa caucus...

"... and then suddenly in waves: high school students, college students kept on pouring... shaking hands saying, "We are so excited about making sure that our voice is finally heard."

"You know, I am an Independent... I'm fifty five years old. I've never come to a caucus before. I always thought it was a waste of time... But this time it feels different, this time it feels as if it's really important for me to be here."

"As I'm shaking hands afterwards, "Barack,  I was a Republican and I've changed my registration, 'cause I wanna participate in this caucus for this cause because I truly believe that we can make a difference this time."

"All that "can't do", "won't do", "won't even try" attitude was just burned under this avalanche of hope, and inspiration, and attitude from voters all across the state."

"... The  time for these partisan food fights, and attacks, and petty politics, and trivialization of Washington are over...We insist on a different kind of politics.

It's not about tearing your opponent down: it's about lifting the country up."
