American Press Association Mission Statement

  • Our mission is to encourage high professional standards in photojournalism and to promote a free and unrestricted exchange of information through a cohesive unit of trained photographers and journalists across America. Due to a growing interest in APA from around the world, we are accepting submissions from different countries which will be published in our new section WORLDWIDE NEWS.
  • APA aims to support professional press photography throughout North and South America. Promotional activities include an annual contest, exhibitions, the stimulation of photojournalism through educational programs, and creating greater visibility for press photography through a variety of publications.
  • Educational programs are core objectives of the American Press Association. Development of an organizational network of trained, professional photojournalists throughout the Americas is the primary goal and function of the American Press Association.
  • Future seminars, workshops and training programs will be offered in photojournalism. Members will be featured on the APA website with their professional biography with contact information for their respective city/state/province/country.

Has the country changed during the past eight years? Have we changed? Does the word "change" sound like a breath of fresh spring air to you? Look at the crowds of people supporting their leaders. Listen... What is the first word that comes to your mind when you think about the future of America? What is your standpoint on some of the current issues everyone is talking about?

We have 22 states in play. So, get your camera ready and sharpen your brain. We want to hear from you. DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE A STORY, IMAGE OR VIDEO THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHERS?

Remember, always arrive at least one hour prior to selected events to set up your camera equipment and guarantee the best spot you can get. Be polite and courteous to other press media no matter how hectic and crowded it might be. Space can be very limited at some events.

From National Disaster to Crime

The first responders to most events are not the print media, but citizens at the scene, be it a national disaster or crime on the street. The spontaneous and uncensored capture of events in the making is the stuff news is made of. With the advent of thousands of viewers witnessing and capturing these events on cameras, cell phones or video, news and events are brought to a new level of reality. We live in an age of unprecedented access to recording and transmitting of information and events. Join our team of reporters.

Entertainment, Performing Arts and Sports

Submissions covering entertainment, performing arts, sports or other events of social interest are welcome, as well as personal reviews, critique and opinions accompanying them; both are to be considered for print and publication. All submissions are welcome, be they from registered members or not. Your comments, ideas, suggestions are not subject to editorial process. Authors reserve the rights to their publications, photo prints and video.

Nature and Environment

We are inviting everyone to have a look at some photographic documentation of climate change around the world and find out how you can make a change in your daily life, a change that can affect places as far away as Antarctica. The story of the father and the son whose lifelong dedication to our water planet has inspired the President of the United States of America George W. Bush to create the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands National Monument, the largest marine protected area in the world. We are looking forward to receiving new ecopics , articles, different publications and video images from the APA media dedicated to our beautiful planet and the impact of global warming and pollution on everyone's life.
